Jobs with Justice Toledo Celebrates Labor Day

Jobs with Justice Toledo marched in Toledo’s Labor Day parade 2006. Jobs with Justice members, including Top Pun, were there to live out their Jobs with Justice pledge, saying:
“I’ll be there! During the next year, I will be there at least five times for someone else’s fight, as well as my own. If enough of us are there, we’ll all start winning.
…standing up for our rights as working people to a decent standard of living.
…supporting the right of all workers to organize and bargain collectively
…fighting for secure family-wage jobs in the face of corporate attacks on working people and our communities
…organizing the unorganized to take aggressive action to secure a better economic future for all of us.
…mobilizing those already organized to join the fight for jobs with justice.”
This year’s Toledo Labor Day Parade highlighted the unfair labor practices of The Toledo Blade, Toledo’s daily newspaper. For more info see: Boycott the Blade.
Let’s make every day Labor Day!
What is Jobs with Justice?
Founded in 1987, Jobs with Justice’s mission is to improve working people’s standard of living, fight for job security, and protect workers’ right
to organize. Jobs with Justice’s core belief is that in order to be successful, workers’ rights struggles have to be part of a larger campaign for economic and social justice. To that end, Jobs with Justice has created a network of local coalitions that connect labor, faith-based, community, and student organizations to work together on workplace and community social justice campaigns.
Jobs with Justice coalitions now exist in over 40 cities in 29 states in all regions of the country, made up of both member organizations and thousands of individual activists who sign the Jobs with Justice pledge to be there five times a year for someone else’s struggle as well as their own. Jobs with Justice creates strategic alliances locally and among organizations nationally to develop a broad base of support. By building a base of diverse constituencies at the local level as well as providing training, coordination, and networking at the national level, Jobs with Justice is re-building the infrastructure that gives communities a sense of their own power.
First and foremost, Jobs with Justice is about action. Action wins concrete victories. Creative direct action empowers activists. Collective action builds the relationships that make coalitions work. Jobs with Justice coalitions take action around all kinds of issues, from the right to organize a union to living wage to global justice to students rights.
