Freedom from Health Insurance Marches on

Our Health Care System is Neither Healthy Caring Nor a System--PUBLIC HEALTH T-SHIRTSFreedom from Health Insurance Marches on

The U.S. Census Bureau yesterday released its annual report that estimates the number of uninsured Americans, showing that there are now 46.6 million Americans living without health insurance.  President Bush immediately declared “mission accomplished” as millions more Americans are no longer burdened with a broken health care system.  Bush stated, “I have heard the cries of the American people.  They no longer want to deal with such a sick system.  Hordes of Americans, rich and poor alike, are exercising their freedom to leave our crazy health insurance system.”  Bush applauded the courage of these bold new freedom fighters and renewed his commitment to supporting their venture of 18,000 sacrificial premature deaths each year.  Bush proposed eliminating the death tax in response to so many more expected deaths.  “While most Americans resist incentives to die, such as our poorly organized health care system, getting rid of the death tax removes one more barrier.  With the burden of the existing death tax, who knows, Americans may choose to live forever; and that surely would overwhelm our health care system, not to mention threatening social security and having to deal with so many old fogies on the road.”

In an unrelated story, Bush touted Armageddon and the rapture as means to offset the overwhelming influx of illegal aliens.

Faith-based Homeland Security Causes US Airports Delays

Faith-based Homeland Security Causes Further Delays at US Airports

by bad machine 08/28/2006

WASHINGTON DC- With full approval from the White House and the Office of Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration and the Christian Coalition have joined forces to establish a new branch of security at all US airports. The new entity, the Administration of Home Origin/Lineage Entry Security, or AHOLES, enacted new measures over the weekend that severely restrict “undesirable” international passengers’ entry into the US.

Pairs of security personnel consisting of one TSA official and one Christian fundamentalist are now stationed at all major airports. Areas of scrutiny ostensibly focus on country of origin and nationality, but now also appear to include appearance, dress and other signs of “un-American” values.

A Lebanese theatrical company was refused entry at JFK Airport in New York yesterday, but there are conflicting reasons for the denial. The TSA reports the group was turned away because of their ties to Lebanon. A Christian Coalition spokesman claims the reason was based on their “deviant lifestyle” and a “clearly gay agenda “. Forced to cancel their national tour of “Damn Yankees,” a spokesperson for the troupe, The Lebanese Thespians, stated they would take their shows to Canada.

The International Florists Convention in Chicago was canceled when delegates from around the world were turned back at O’Hare. A small riot broke out when a group from Holland was informed they would not be allowed into the US. No one was injured, but several “man purses” were confiscated and one traveler was held for several hours after calling a police officer a “brute” and slapping his face with a bouquet of tulips.

At Los Angeles International Airport, a group of women from Hamburg faired better when they were detained but released after several hours. After a lengthy interrogation, it was determined they were in fact, German tourists, and not lesbians.

Cheney Links Troop Withdrawals to Circular Logic

There is a Terrorist Behind Every Bush - Cheney-ANTI-BUSH T-SHIRTSOn Monday, President Cheney stated “A precipitous withdrawal from Iraq would be … a ruinous blow to the future security of the United States; much like the precipitous invasion of Iraq.  Occupying Iraq is making it way too easy for ‘terrorist elements’ to strike at America, thus fooling them into not attacking in the United States.  So, if there are no terrorist attacks in the United States, then occupying Iraq has been successful.  However, if terrorists do attack in the United States, then we clearly need to increase our troops in Iraq.”

Bush Demands N.O. Relief on Katrina Anniversary

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Bush N.O. Relief

Bush Assures Americans that N.O. Relief is on the Way

On the Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of Democratic New Orleans, vice President Bush assured some Americans that N.O. relief is on it’s way.  On a break from his vacation in Wacko, Texas, Bush urged patience and personal sacrifice while speaking to displaced New Orleans citizens at a temporary shelter.  He noted that it may take up to three more years for real progress, unless he should be impeached.

Bush warned against needless fear of another hurricane, “We need fear for the upcoming Fall elections, and warned of potential shortages unless Halliburton gets an emergency contract to convert any remaining social fabric to synthetic fear substitutes.  We’re producing fear as fast as we can.  In fact, fear production is up 666% since I first got selected.  Still, there are dangerous levels of government there.  Based on our previous experience, that stuff that happened before, if another hurricane should occur, I am confident that this Republican administration will let loose a relief effort equivalent to a thousand ‘brownies’ as soon as we learn about the devastation the next day from a newspaper or a radio or something, and, of course, when they tell me.”

Bush scolded his opponents for politicizing his political failures, saying: “Have no doubt, I support N.O. relief.  American voters are well aware of Republicans’ historical support for levees and dykes.”  Bush took the offensive by announcing Dick Cheney’s proposal to place the remains of FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, under the Office of Faith-based Initiatives.  At Bob Jones University, where Bush had just received an honorary doctorate degree in theocracy, he cited a lack of prayer among certain elements of society, and a fundamental misunderstanding of God, as causes of “end time like” weather patterns.  Bush then pandered the question, “After all, isn’t Allah really the biggest terrorist?”

Peace History

August 29, 1957

U.S. Congress passed the Civil Rights Act, the first since reconstruction.

The bill established a Civil Rights Commission, and a Civil Rights Division in the Department of Justice.

African Americans in Milledgeville, Georgia, wait in line to vote following the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

The Act allowed federal prosecutors to obtain court injunctions against interference with the right to vote and established a federal Civil Rights Commission with the authority to investigate discriminatory conditions. In a futile attempt to block it, Democratic, formerly Dixiecrat, and later Republican Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina set the all-time filibuster record: 24 hours, 19 minutes.

Angry Rumsfield Doesn’t See Reason

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfield, one of the braver chickenhawks among chickenhawks, apparently could not identify any reason for soldiers or their families to be angry with him, after extending an Army brigade’s one year tour in the Iraq war, just as they were preparing to return home.  Rumsfield, not one of the more empathetic Regime members, probably figures that he has enough anger for the entire armed forces.  Perhaps he should delegate some of that anger to his cannon fodder.  Weather he likes it or not, the Military Families Speak Out group is working to support our troops by bringing the troops home NOW!

Separation of Church and Hate?

U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious publication that the separation of church and state is “a lie” and that our founding fathers did not want this country to be “a nation of secular laws.”  Well, the George W. Bush regime, an aspiring theocracy, has managed to separate our beloved state from the core religious principles aspired to by every major world religion — kindness and loving one another would be a good start!   Even mere civility would be a good start!  If we can separate the church and hate, I might consider re-thinking the relationship of church and state.  You might say that I believe Jesus is a liberal, that is, if you want to enter the Jesus is a liberal or conservative debate.  In any case, I am for the separation of church and hate.

August 27, 1963

W.E.B. DuBois, the black American radical sociologist, scholar, author, pan-Africanist, and one of the founders of the NAACP, died in Accra, Ghana. He had been charged and tried in the U.S. for being a “foreign agent” in 1951 because he chaired the The Peace Information Center. It was dedicated to banning nuclear weapons but Secretary of State Dean Acheson had labeled it a Communist front.
